Yarn Along: Confession

Joining in with Ginny from Small Things on Yarn Along.

In the last week I finished off my second pair of knit pants for A (the first ones came out too small) and received 4 sets of round knitting needles I ordered a bit ago. So excited to get those needs, as I was really wanting to use this cute pink and white yarn I've been saving.

But while waiting I cast on a cowl. This will be a big one. And I love the blues. I'm not sure where this one will go. It was just intended as a time filler.

Then Saturday the needles arrived!

Being a busy weekend, and I was finishing up A's little pants, I didn't get to cast on till late Sunday night. But oh I was so excited. The colors so dainty and girly for my littlest girl. Another pair of knit pants, or shorts, if it turns out there's not enough yarn (I only have the one skein.).

Then IT happened. IT's happened before. The dogs got my knitting. I was lucky this time, they didn't eat my needle or damage the yarn, but all the work I'd done was gone. I've spent the last few days untangling the mess. I can see the end in sight.  But I'm so excited and in love with this yarn I will not be disheartened, or discouraged. Bit by bit I'm getting through it.

The cowl is on the back burner for now. But it's a "keep busy" project anyhow. In time it'll get done.

As for reading, no paper books this week (I prefer paper as it feels like I'm actually reading, compared to ebooks that I have a glowing light in my eyes.). My personal selection has been read numerous times. And the library visits have taken a back seat without a vehicle. But to counter that I downloaded the Kindle app to my phone and a few books I'm excited to read and got for FREE!

Moder Buddhism: The Path of Compassion and Wisdom Volume 1 Sutra by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso  I'm quiet enjoying this one, it's helping me see where I need to grow and get back where I was.

And Charlotte Mason's Original Homeschooling Series All 6 volumes. Now I haven't gotten very far into this but was just so excited to get it for $1 that I had to start it right away.

And now my confession! I don't use patterns. I can't read them. I've only ever used 2 patterns- both very simply written out in plain language. Felted bowls and a dolly. I make up all my patterns as I go, and never write down what I've done. I can't duplicate any of my knitting twice. Also I can not for the life of me figure out how to increase. So there you go- not very dramatic but honest.

What are you reading and knitting?

  1. I was the same way with knitting. This website really helped me learn how to read patterns... Maybe it will help you too?

  2. I started writing down what I was doing in a composition book a while ago. I made some really good fitting fingerless mitts, then made another pair that was way too big, so I starting recording needle, CO and what weight the yarn is so I don't accidentally knit mitts for my friend's kids. That's right, they were so big I felted them, but over-felted and now little girls fight over them for dog walking!
